From The Urgent To The Absurd,Kenyan Musicians Take On The Coronavirus Through Songs
1. DannyP Mboka- Coronavirus (Kolona)
Most artistes have turned to channel the pandemic into music, such is Ukambani singer,DannyP who released a song called “Kolona” on March 5 — around the same time many cities first issued stay-at-home orders.
In just over a month since it was uploaded, the song has amassed over 200,000 million views on YouTube. It’s the most popular video on his channel by far.
He’s also released other songs not related to the coronavirus like TILA– my personal favorite. Tila means cut, since christians need to cut links to things that will prevent us from seing the lord. kindly enjoy.
2. ETHIC – QUARANTEI
This song by Ethic is just makes you forget about the pandemic that is ongoing in the world. It is definitely a track to jam to post covid-19.
It also creates awareness on how to prevent the virus.
Worth noting is the fact that it is the first time the crew is producing a song without video vixens.
The video was shot and directed by Tony De Gigz, audio mixed and mastered by Motif while audio was produced by East sounds and Ricky Dimelo.
3. Boondocks Gang- 2020 (Covid19)
Boondocks gang released 2020 – A jam relating to how the ordinary youth in Kenya is being affected as a result of the virus. It is also emotional but the wordplay give it that club-vibe.
4. Salome Wairimu- JANGA LA CORONA
This song by the young beautiful girl is perhaps the most emotional song about the pandemic. Listen in and share your thoughts on the comment section.
5. BAHATI- (Covid19) MWISHO WA DUNIA
6. FENNY KERUBO- CORONAVIRUS
7. Justina Syokau- Tujikinge na Corona Virus
Syokau instills knowledge on how to prevent the disease.
8. Ochungulo Family- Pandemik
Ochungulo family dropped a club banger titled ‘Pandemik’ which was a hit. Basically they don’t educate on how to prevent the pandemic coronavirus but in turn relate on what is happening daily around us to as a pandemic.
